Today’s prompt makes me think of the saying, “Least said; soonest mended”.
In my view it would not be a helpful exercise to rake over the past and find real instances of “foot-in-mouth” – every time she opens her mouth, she puts her foot in it.
We’ve all done it and we’ve all been on the receiving end.
Those in public life – politicians, celebrities, community leaders – need to be particularly careful. The media is waiting for the slightest mistake or ill-judged communication, whether it is a private remark overheard, an email sent to the wrong recipient or some other blunder.
One Tweet I read and remembered this month (although I didn’t favourite or retweet it at the time) was from Nicky Gumbel (@nickygumbel).
Never allow little things to spoil a friendship. Overlook if possible. Confront if necessary. Always forgive.
