X is for X marks the spot #AtoZChallenge

For the A to Z in April Challenge 2019 I have picked some words, which are connected with physical space.

X marks the spot
Where treasure is hidden.
Can you find it or not?
Cheating is forbidden.

X in the sky

Well here I am at a notoriously difficult letter. Treasure maps with a cross marking the place to dig for treasure relate to real places in physical space. The sort of maps used for fund-raising events, where people pay money to stick a pin in a map and the one nearest to a spot previously chosen wins a prize, may not represent any location on earth.

People have marked the site of places that reminded them of their history throughout the ages. In the story of Samuel, he stood a stone on end as a memorial (aid to memory). It was called Ebenezer meaning stone of help. There is a Christian hymn with this word in it, “Here I raise my Ebenezer”. People unfamiliar with the Old Testament story do not understand the words.

Metal-detecting is a popular hobby. Sometimes people find really old artefacts. They may even find treasure.

Jesus Christ talked about treasure in some of his parables (stories with a deeper meaning).
