N is for Nazareth and Night

My posts for the A to Z Challenge this year are all about the Easter Story, recorded in 4 books of the New Testament: the Gospels. Image in sidebar links to Theme Reveal post.

For this year’s A to Z challenge I am highlighting some important words from the Easter story.

Jesus Christ (Letter J) is often referred to as Jesus of Nazareth. After his birth in Bethlehem, the City of David, Mary and Joseph fled with him to Egypt to keep him safe from Herod. After Herod died they returned to their hometown, Nazareth, where Joseph was a carpenter and would have trained Jesus in that trade. Matthew 2:13-23  and Mark 6:1-6

The Easter story is about events in and around Jerusalem. Jesus and his disciples travelled around during the three years before the first Easter. They arrived in Jerusalem for the festival of Passover from Bethany.

After the Passover meal Jesus predicted that the very same night all his disciples would fall away. Then he and his disciples went to Gethsemane (Letter G) Matthew 26:31-45 and Mark 14:27-41

Jesus spent the night in prayer, while his disciples (Letter D) fell asleep.

Some churches hold night vigil services, praying through the night.
