C is for Carpenter

Once again I have picked a theme for the A to Z Challenge. This time I aim to entertain rather than to educate. My theme is careers or occupations. I begin with a piece of creative writing.

Christopher and Christine are carpenters. They make beautiful furniture from wood. Sometimes they carve their trademarks as part of the furniture. They use modern tools.

I wonder what sort of tools Joseph used in Nazareth and his sons. I think we might be surprised how similar the hand-tools were. No electricity then.

  1. Carpentry is a great trade. I worked as a carpenter’s assistant for a while when I was about 24, but I didn’t learn all that much. It was winter and we were framing houses. I was so cold.

  2. I have always been impressed with master carpenters and especially woodworkers. They create some beautiful pieces that last for generations. I can’t imagine anything more satisfying than building your own home and then filling it with handmade furniture.
