M is for Messiah

This April on Sue’s Trifles the theme is the names of God.  There may be more than one name for some of the letters.  There may be others I have omitted.  I hope that by going through the alphabet together we may learn more about the nature of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Letter L

Messiah has the same meaning as Christ.  It means someone anointed (in the way the Old Testament kings were anointed with oil as a sign they had been chosen by God).  Jesus allowed himself to be baptised by John.  Luke 3:21-22

Much of the Old Testament looks forward to the coming of the Messiah.  In the New Testament John the Baptist (or Baptiser) preached a baptism of repentance and that the people were to expect someone greater than himself.  Jesus claimed to be the Messiah.  Luke 4:16-30

Majesty is a name or title related to the kingship of Christ.

Master is a name of Jesus.  Matthew 23:8-12 John 15:9-17  (John, the writer of the eponymous Gospel, 3 letters and the Book of Revelation was one of the twelve disciples, also known as apostles.)

Jesus taught that although he is the Master, he is also a friend and brother to the children of God.  If you didn’t click the links in the section on Master, please go back and do so now.  The Bible expresses these ideas far better than I can.
