L is for Love

This April on Sue’s Trifles the theme is the names of God.  There may be more than one name for some of the letters.  There may be others I have omitted.  I hope that by going through the alphabet together we may learn more about the nature of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Letter L

Love is God’s nature.  We must not forget that he is Holy and our Judge, but neither should we underestimate his love for us.  One of the best known verses in the Bible is John 3:16.  Knowing that we are loved by our Creator can be life-changing.

Lamb of God is a name of Jesus.  In Latin it is Agnus Dei, which like Kyrie eleison (mentioned yesterday) is part of the liturgy for Holy Communion or a requiem mass. This name refers to Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, which was the culmination of all the sacrifices of lambs in the past.  Hebrews 10:1-10

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

Lord of lords is a name of God usually linked with King of kings. It appears in Paul’s first letter to Timothy (1 Timothy 6:15).  Please see yesterday’s post for more details.
