This April on Sue’s Trifles the theme is the names of God. There may be more than one name for some of the letters. There may be others I have omitted. I hope that by going through the alphabet together we may learn more about the nature of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus is the name the angel told Mary to give to her son. Luke 1:26-38. The Old Testament name Joshua is another form of the name, Jesus. It may be translated as Jehovah is salvation. In the post for the letter H, I mentioned that the nature of people is to do wrong. Salvation means rescue. Jesus is the one, who can rescue us from doing wrong and bring us into the love, peace and joy of knowing God as our Heavenly Father, Jesus as our Saviour and the Holy Spirit as our Helper.
Jehovah is a name of God, who told Moses, I am that I am – the Eternal Living One.
Judge is not exactly a name of God, but it is important to know that God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world. John 3:16-17 However, in the statement of belief (creed), there are the words “we believe that he (Jesus) will come again to judge the living and the dead.” Jesus’ disciple, the apostle Peter, wrote about this in his 1st letter 1 Peter 4:1-11
Did you know that Jesus is going to return? When he ascended into heaven, the angels made this promise (according to Luke). Acts 1:1-11 The 1st letter to the Thessalonians, written by Paul, also teaches about the second coming. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all.
(2 Corinthians 13:14, paraphrased)

I never knew that about that name Joshua. It’s a very popular name. I wonder if people know it when they name their kids.

This is such a beautiful post! I love how you connect each name for God, like the ones in this post (Jesus, Joshua, Jehovah, etc.).
