H is for Holy one

This April on Sue’s Trifles the theme is the names of God.  There may be more than one name for some of the letters.  There may be others I have omitted.  I hope that by going through the alphabet together we may learn more about the nature of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Letter H

Holy One is a name of God.  Holy is a word which describes God.  Only God is Holy by nature.  People naturally do wrong and are not holy.  God has made it possible for people to grow in holiness.   Leviticus 11:45 and Hebrews 10:14 are examples of this idea.

Holy Spirit is the name of the third person of the Trinity. In older translations of the Bible and In the Book of Common Prayer, the Holy Spirit is called the Holy Ghost.  The Holy Spirit, being a person, should be referred to as He rather than It.  The God of the Bible is three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  They were all involved in creation as three Persons, one God.

Many preachers dread having to explain the Trinity, but this idea is consistent with the Bible (see, for example, Genesis 1:1-2 Deuteronomy 6:4 John 5:16-18) and explains how God can be Love.  The Three persons of the Trinity love each other and the beings they have created.

Helper is a name given to the Holy Spirit Hebrews 13:6

  1. Had a hard time finding where to leave a comment, almost passed by and wonder how many other visitors to your blog might have the same problem. Is there a way you can add the word comment to the heart? I’m not familiar with rating blogs, must be a wordpress thing? The Trinity is a very hard thing to comprehend. I hope to use your references later to read more about it.

    • Sorry, Sandy the heart comes “as is”. If you open an individual post the comment box comes up automatically. Perhaps I should add it to the Start here page and the comments welcome at the side. Sue
